We’ve seen him taking the world in just a few days, he’s the man of everyone’s dream, he’s the Old Spice Man!! Compared to the old all muscle-shouting-crazy abs-commercials, they really put so much efforts into the new ones. The lines are hilarious and witty, the story is unpredictable and crazy fun (kinda remind me of Japanese commercials).
so, how could a deodorant commercial be this big?
It started out with a couple of regular tvc’s:
The Man Your Man Could Smell Like hit over 14 millions view since launched in Feb.
then come the second installment, Questions, which hits almost 8 million views in less than 4 weeks.
Last week, Old Spice and the agency behind this bare-chested-phenomenon, Wieden + Kennedy Portland decided to take the it to an extraordinary next level. Instead of celebrating the wide success of the commercial, they engaged the people who’ve talking about the hilarious commercials. For two days, the Old Spice man came to live, replying tweets and comments, posted dozens of viral videos as responses to random comments and questions on Twitter, youtube, and other media.
Viral videos in a day
Within 24 hours, views of the Old Spice guy’s responses eclipsed some of the most popular viral videos to date (also based on the first 24 hours)
Old Spice responses to viewers: 5.9 million
Barack Obama’s victory speech: 4.8 million
George W. Bush dodging shoes: 4.4 million
Susan Boyle: 3 million
Not only it became an Internet hype, Old Spice inspires other brands. Harold B. Lee Library created this parody to promote studying in HBL library.
WOW, just W-O-W
so far, this is the most hilarious and brilliant campaign i’ve seen. From a very entertaining TVC, to post-advertise; engaging costumers and brand enthusiasts in a simple, yet smart way.
KUDOS to the team behind all these wonderful experiences. I’d kill to be working in that agency.
For, now, SWAN DIVE!!
Who is he when he’s not riding horse backward, be shirtless all day long and act all macho?
He is Isaiah Mustafa , an American actor and former wide receiver in NFL.
